For my dissertation project I have created an illustrated magazine all about ocean conservation and the sense of wonder! The aim is that through the medium of illustration I can convey the beauty of the natural world, and by taking a positive tone, I can get more people feeling hopeful and engaging in climate action. I took a mixed-media approach to image making, using a combination of ink, coloured pencil, paint pens and cyanotype, which I hope helps create a sense of magic about ocean habitats and the animals that live there.

Project description
Cyanotype
For this project I learned to make cyanotypes! Cyanotype is a process where a light-sensitive emulsion is applied to paper and exposed to the sun, capturing the shadow of objects placed on the surface, creating a negative blue and white image. I love the magical and atmospheric effect that this creates, so I incorporated some of my cyanotypes into backdrops of the illustrations in my magazine and eventually created a 100% cyanotype collage poster for my degree show display.

Bio
I am a Scottish illustrator and graphic designer with a big love for bright colours. I often explore textured illustrations and collage styles, but I also work with typography and vectors – whatever is most appropriate for the brief at hand. I have a broad range of interests, from book covers and illustration to logo design and branding, which helps me bring different perspectives and create interesting solutions for clients. Basically I'm on a mission to add a sense of whimsy and vibrancy to as many creative projects as I can!
