Project description

Pairing of high-end products that reduce daily smartphone distraction

Paying attention becomes literal when we look at our daily interaction with smartphones. Although useful, devices accompanying us almost 24/7 takes a toll on our attention spans. Many people experience moments of getting 'stuck' scrolling where time seems to fly by - that is by design.

Ulysses & Ithaca offer an alternative to app blockers, offering a tangible and pleasurable way to stay present. Ulysses is a necklace that can be set to give a gentle nudge when one stays longer than intended on certain apps - elegant, configurable on the go and AI-free. Ithaca is an analogue half of the pairing meant to be used on arrival at home - creating a phone-free moment through burn of incense and intentional weight of a luxurious bronze lid.

Many of us rely on daily smartphone use, while trying to not be used by the device itself – this design invites people to use technology intentionally.
