Project description

Meet SABI! A reusable water bottle designed to encourage longer use and more intentional care from consumers.

While reusable bottles are often promoted as a sustainable alternative to single-use plastics, the growing number of bottles being purchased and quickly replaced is creating further environmental harm.

Due to the environmental cost of manufacturing a more durable product, reusable bottles must be used for a significant period before their benefits outweigh their own production impact. When discarded prematurely, or bought in excess, the bottle not only fails to offset it's own environmental impact but also contributes to long-lasting material waste.

By responding to existing behaviours around reusable bottles, SABI aims to create a single bottle designed to last, and to be the last one you need.

How It Works

SABI directly addresses these issues by encouraging long-term use through an evolving visual design.

• The bottle features multiple layers of paint, with a surprise hidden beneath, that gradually reveals additional colours as the product is used, washed, and handled over time. As the surface slowly changes, each bottle develops a unique appearance shaped by the habits of its owner, creating a personal connection that encourages continued use.

• Additionally, the bottle comes equipped with two base sizes, which allows the user to change the size of their bottle depending on their situation. No need to buy multiple bottles, just swap out the base component.

• SABI can be completely deconstructed into it's simple geometric components, which makes it easy to clean and less likely to be replaced due to dirt build up inside the bottle.

• Finally, the ability to replace components allows for worn parts to be swapped without discarding the entire product.
