Coco
My first project reimagines Pixar’s Coco as an adaptation for stage. The story follows a young boy named Miguel, who is transported to the Land of the Dead, where he embarks on a journey to reconnect with his family and receive their blessing to pursue his love of music. Throughout the story, Miguel learns about the importance of memory, family, and honouring those who came before us.
My costume design for Pepita is inspired by alebrijes, the brightly coloured dreamlike spirit creatures from Mexican folklore that guide lost souls through the Land of the Dead. The design combines lantern puppetry, sculptural silhouette, and vibrant festival-inspired textiles to create a visually immersive costume intended for live performance. Through this project, I explored how costume can function as both character and spectacle, using movement, light, colour, and scale to help bring the magical world of Coco to life on stage.
