Costumed model seen from side back angle. Eerie design, Androgenous man in a state of Metamorphose, singular eyelashes extended beyond sides of face with harsh blushed cheeks. Clothed in a 1920's black Tailcoat with details in shiny black fabric over large cuffs which curl into a point arched up and over to elbow; a large gash-like pleat down centre back. The concept of this project reimagines the production of Cabaret by Joe Masteroff through a visual language of gradual metamorphosis. Whilst the narrative unfolds, characters become increasingly grotesque, morphing into insect-like creatures as fascist ideology takes hold over Germany and they fall into complicity. Drawing on 1920s–1930s Weimar Berlin and its Cabaret culture, the musical contrasts glamour and humour with an underlying sense of unease, reflecting the tension between freedom and oppression.
